"Tails from the Harbor" is the new mural of Punta Gorda (Florida) ("Tails from the Harbour" é o novo mural de Punta Gorda (Flórida)

O centro de Punta Gorda na Flórida (EUA), está recebendo um novo Mural! O calçadão da cidade é o local para o 31º mural da Sociedade Histórica Mural de Punta Gorda. Este promete ser o mural mais visitado, pois possui um tráfego de pedestres de mais de 2.000 pessoas por dia.

(Downtown Punta Gorda in Florida, US, is getting a new Mural! The City’s Harborwalk is the site for the 31st mural from the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society. This one promises to be the most visited mural yet, with pedestrian traffic of over 2,000 people per day in season).

Apropriadamente chamada de “Caudas do Porto”, o mural apresenta a rica vida marinha de Charlotte Harbor, tanto do passado quanto do presente e é um das paredes mais originais da Sociedade de Mural de Punta Gorda.

(Appropriately named, “Tails from the Harbor,” the mural will depict the rich marine life of Charlotte Harbor, both past and present. The location presents one of the most unique wall

challenges the Society has taken on to date.) 

Situada embaixo da ponte sul 41, e ao longo do calçadão de Punta Gorda, a superfície do mural é o novo muro de contenção construído depois que a caminhada foi ampliada em 2017 e possui uma inclinação de descida de 40%.

(Situated underneath the bridge of southbound US 41, and along the Punta Gorda Harborwalk, the mural surface is actually the new retaining wall constructed after the walk was widened in 2017, and has an angle of  40%.)

The idea for a mural at this unique location came from the City’s Urban Design planner Mitchell Austin.  “I thought the new design of the retaining wall was crying out for a mural,” said Austin who mentioned it to Kelly Gaylord, President of the Society, in May 2017.

Colocar um mural neste local exigia não só a aprovação da cidade, mas também do Departamento de Transportes da Flórida (FDOT). O processo de inscrição do FDOT foi extenso e foi exigida uma assistência profissional e durante todo o processo a Mural Society, uma entidade sem fins lucrativos, coletou fundos para sua instalação. 

(Putting a mural at this location required not only approval from the City but also approval from Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).  The FDOT application process was extensive and required professional assistance and during this time the Mural Society, a non-profit organization went to work on raising the funds needed to create the mural.)
