St. Augustine se prepara para o Dia de Finados (St.Augustine is ready for the Day of the Dead)

Fundada pelos espanhóis em 1565, St. Augustine, na Flórida (EUA) celebra este mês, o Día de los Muertos com encenações históricas e eventos festivos.

 (Founded by the Spanish in 1565, St. Augustine, in Florida (US) celebrates this month, El Día de Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) with historical plays and festive events.) 

 Embora comemorado na América Latina e nas comunidades hispânicas dos Estados Unidos, o Día de los Muertos surgiu no México e homenageia os mortos com festividades e combina rituais indígenas Astecas com  o catolicismo, trazidos para a região pelos conquistadores espanhóis. 

(Although it is celebrated by Latin America and in the Hispanic communities of the United States, El Día de los Muertos appeared in Mexico and honors the dead with festivities and combines Aztec indigenous rituals with Catholicism, brought to the region by the Spanish conquerors).

Com a certeza de que os mortos seriam insultados pelo luto e tristeza, o Día de los Muertos celebra a vida do falecido com comida, bebida, festas e atividades que o morto gostava em vida. Ele reconhece a morte como uma parte natural da experiência humana e durante esta festividade os mortos também são parte da comunidade, acordados do seu sonho eterno para compartilhar as celebrações com seus amados. 

(With the certainty that the dead would be insulted by mourning and sadness, El Día de los Muertos celebrates the life of the deceased with food, drink, parties and activities that the deceased enjoyed in life. He recognizes death as a natural part of human experience and during this holiday the dead are also part of the community, awakened from their eternal dream to share the celebrations with their loved ones.)
    

No sábado, 27 de outubro, no distrito histórico de St. Augustine, a  Florida Living History, em parceria com a Tolomato Cemetery Preservation Association realiza a preparação para os dois dias de celebração tradicionais, o qual começa oficialmente no dia 1º de novembro, com o Dia de Todos os Santos, em homenagem aos pequenos anjos - crianças que faleceram. 

(On Saturday, October 27, in the Historic District of St. Augustine, a traditional festive event hosted by Florida Living History in partnership with the Tolomato Cemetery Preservation Association are organised for the two traditional days of celebration of the Day of the Dead, which officially begins on November 1st with All Saints' Day, in honor of the little angels - children who have passed away.)

No Dia de Todas as Almas, 2 de novembro, voluntários se vestem com alguns dos personagens históricos notáveis enterrados no Tolomato Cemetery, um dos mais antigos dos Estados Unidos.  Além disso, à noite, é realizada a procissão com tochas no centro de St. Augustine, com a tradicional Marcha de la Santa Compañia, representando almas dos nobres e fiéis cidadãos da cidade dos últimos 400 anos.

(The Day of All Souls, on November 2, volunteers portray some of the notable historical characters buried in Tolomato Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the continental US. In addition, at night, occurs the procession with torches in the center of St. Augustine, with the traditional March of the Holy Company, representing souls of the noble and faithful citizens of the city for the last 400 years.)

  

O evento terminará com uma breve produção à luz de velas da peça Don Juan Tenorio,  ilustrando o poder redentor do afeto verdadeiro e o triunfo do amor sobre a própria morte,

(The event will end with a brief candlelight production of a play Don Juan Tenorio, illustrating the redeeming power of true affection and the triumph of love over one's own death).
